The Korea National University of Arts (President Daejin Kim) Fusion Art Center's Art and Technology Lab (AT Lab) is hosting the 1st Virtual Production Contest in collaboration with VA Corporation until December 27.

Virtual Production (VP) is a technique that combines live-action and virtual images in real-time using large LED walls. This method allows for immediate and creative work by enabling on-site verification of the final product without the need for post-production. It is gaining attention as a next-generation media art and filming technique due to its advantages such as reducing environmental pollution by replacing disposable sets and lowering production costs and budgets by eliminating the need for computer graphics compositing.

Korea National University of Arts has been conducting various industry-academic collaboration projects since August after signing a business agreement with VA Corporation, which has Asia's largest VP infrastructure, to invigorate the virtual production industry and foster talent.

This contest is also part of the industry-academic support program, aimed at giving students the opportunity to produce films using virtual production and gain practical experience. Open to current students and alumni of Korea National University of Arts regardless of theme, genre, or length, the contest offers various benefits to the final selected works including production cost support shooting support in the virtual studio Unreal Engine-based background asset creation for shooting and workshops on the basics and advanced aspects of virtual production.

An official from the AT Lab of Korea National University of Arts stated, “We hope this contest will further strengthen students' advanced media production capabilities.” The AT Lab is a creation and production research institute aiming for the fusion of science and technology with cultural arts, as well as industry and education. It has produced interdisciplinary virtual reality works like "Scarecrow" and "Rain Fruits," which have been invited to major international film festivals' advanced sectors such as Sundance and Cannes XR. The lab is leading global trends in immersive media, advanced medical, and artificial intelligence content through collaborations with prominent domestic and international companies and research institutes.
