The "K-ARTS X KAIST Freshmen Video and Game Camp," where freshmen from Korea's leading art and science universities meet to gain preliminary experience in the fusion of cultural arts and cutting-edge science, is being organized once again ahead of the 2024 semester, following its previous editions in 2022 and 2023.

The freshmen video and game camp, co-hosted by the Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts) and KAIST, was first held in 2022 based on a memorandum of understanding established on January 6 to expand collaboration in cultural arts and technology. During its second edition in 2023, the program achieved a 100% satisfaction rate among participants expressing a willingness to recommend it to future freshmen.

K-Arts (President: Kim Daejin) will hold the "2024 K-ARTS X KAIST Freshmen Video and Game Camp" from February 13 (Tuesday) to February 20 (Tuesday) at the School of Film, TV & Multimedia of K-Arts.

Applications for the camp will be accepted from January 31 (Wednesday) to February 4 (Sunday), and selected participants will receive a text message at the contact number provided in their applications. This year, a total of 36 freshmen from KAIST and K-Arts will participate, engaging in creative lectures on video and game production, as well as team-based workshops aimed at enhancing understanding and creativity in collaborative creation of fusion art and advanced content.

Lee Sngmoo, director of Art and Technology Lab(AT Lab) of the K-Arts  and a film professor, noted, "As the development of advanced content like the metaverse and augmented reality becomes increasingly important, the creative exchange among talents that form the foundation of this fusion is still lacking." He emphasized that the camp aims to create a space for voluntary and creative interaction between artistic and scientific talents through collaborative planning and production of video works and games.

Meanwhile, the AT Lab is a creative research institute aiming to integrate science and technology with cultural arts, industry, and education. It has produced immersive virtual reality works such as ‘Scarecrow’ and ‘Rain Fruits’, which have been invited to major international film festivals like Sundance, South by Southwest (SXSW), Tribeca, and Cannes XR, winning multiple prestigious awards. The lab also leads collaborations with notable domestic and international companies and research institutes, including LG U+, SKT, and TikTok, to pioneer global trends in immersive media, advanced medical technology, and artificial intelligence content.
