Korea National University of Arts (President Kim Daejin) has been selected for the '2024 Content One Campus Construction and Operation Support Project' supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency(KOCCA), leading the next generation of the media industry.
The Content One Campus Construction and Operation Support Project aims to cultivate creative talents through a project-based approach that establishes an innovative industry-academic-research cooperation system, supporting education and practical project experience capable of leading the advanced content industry.
Through the Content One Campus support project over the years, K-Arts has achieved excellent results, including being invited to 15 international film festivals, such as the Cannes Film Festival, and winning the 'Best Immersive Media Award.'
This project, led by the Art and Technology Lab(AT Lab), involves producing advanced convergence musical performances using spatial computing and generative AI, and will include a tailored collaborative curriculum with experts, including faculty members who have conducted and led immersive performances for years and the composer of the musical ‘Marie Curie’, which was the first Korean musical to enter London's West End.
Director Lee Sngmoo of AT Lab (professor of the Department of Filmmaking) stated, "We aim to elevate the musical Korean Wave to the next level by leading the creation of advanced convergence musical performances and cultivating specialized personnel optimized for the next-generation media industry. Based on years of prior research and creative experiences, including 1:1 VR immersive performances, metaverse performances using avatars, and AI actors, we anticipate presenting a new paradigm for sustainable barrier-free performance creation."
