The A&T Lab (AT Lab) at Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts), led by President Kim Dae-jin, will host the “2024 Immersive Day” international conference under the theme “AI and the Future of Creativity.”
This conference aims to present a new vision for AI-powered content creation, discuss the current state of AI-driven creative content, and feature globally renowned figures leading innovation in the field of artificial intelligence.
The first day of the conference will kick off with a keynote speech by Yoon Yoon-ok, Director of the Content Infrastructure Division at the Korea Creative Content Agency.
Following this, Kent Bye, the founder and host of the "Voices of VR" podcast, known for covering trends in VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality), will present on "The Latest Trends in Immersive Storytelling."
Subsequent talks will include:
Eugene Chung, former co-founder of Oculus Story Studio (Meta) and founder of Penrose Studios, who will discuss "AI in Spatial Computing."Yves Bergquist, an AI researcher leading the "AI in Media" project at the USC Entertainment Technology Center, will deliver a talk on "AI and the Media Industry." His research focuses on the ethical standards of AI in storytelling.
The second day of the conference will explore the present landscape of AI-driven creative work with notable speakers including:
● Mateo AI Studio, winner of the Grand Prize at the Korea AI International Film Festival for its work "Mateo."
● Director Lee Jin-ho, whose project "Story" won first place in the Narrative category
● Director Jeon Nu-ri, whose film "Diamond Dust" was invited to the Ars Electronica Festival.
These speakers will showcase their award-winning works, offering insights into the new possibilities of AI-powered content production.
Additionally, Kim Jong-min, a programmer who pioneered the "VR Village" at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, will present "The Present and Future of AI Content Through Film Festivals," analyzing the state and potential of AI content in both domestic and international markets.
Throughout the conference, the AT Lab will host an exhibition in the venue’s lobby, featuring its Ars Electronica Festival submissions and other notable projects. Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience:
● "Arden’s Wake" by Eugene Chung
● The results of the Generative AI Workshop
Prior to the main event, from November 12 to 13, K-Arts students will participate in a Generative AI Workshop led by Mateo AI Studio and Director Lee Jin-ho, offering hands-on experience in AI-driven film making.
The AT Lab at Korea National University of Arts is a creative research lab dedicated to the convergence of science, technology, culture, arts, industry, and education.
The lab has produced groundbreaking immersive VR projects such as "Scarecrow" and "Rain Fruits," which have been showcased at prestigious international film festivals, including: Sundance Film Festival, SXSW (South by Southwest), Tribeca Film Festival, Cannes XR
The AT Lab has also collaborated with major global companies such as LG U+ and TikTok, pioneering AI-driven media, advanced medical applications, and immersive content.
Furthermore, the lab was recently selected as the lead institution for two major government-supported initiatives:
1. 2024 Global Culture Technology (CT) Professional Training Program
2. Content One Campus Development & Operations Support Program
Through these projects, the lab aims to nurture global talent in AI-based XR (Extended Reality) content development, including generative AI and emotion-recognition AI technologies.
