K-ARTS ART&TECHNOLIGY(AT) LAB, ‘Sigrag Asia 2024’ Participation - The Korea Creative Content Agency presents posters of exhibitions and papers as part of the "Global Cultural Technology (CT) Professional Worker Training Project |
The Art & Technology Lab of the Convergence Arts Center (hereinafter referred to as AT Lab) participated in the "SIGRAPH ASIA 2024" held in Tokyo, Japan, on December 3-6.
Sigraf Asia is the world's largest conference and exhibition on computer graphics and interactive technology, sharing the latest technologies and research trends related to computer graphics such as science, games, education, CGI, and animation, and showcasing new technologies by related companies and organizations.
As part of the "2024 Global Cultural Technology (CT) Professional Training Project" supported by the Korea Creative Content Agency, AT Lab operates a "Project to Train Human Resources Based on Generative and Emotional Awareness AI-Based Increasing Reality (XR) Content Technology" and participated in the event with two types of work and thesis posters produced through its own classes that apply the results of the project research to the project.

The first study, conducted with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), focused on designing an empathy scoring system (ESS) to strengthen the emotional connection between users and AI characters in VR content, and further research through the demonstration and survey of [Diamond Dust], a prior research work, demonstrated its potential in education, treatment, and entertainment by improving the accuracy of emotional recognition, strengthening the character's conversation ability, and improving interaction with AI characters.
The second study, involving 3D commerce content company Recon Labs, suggested a way to intentionally amplify noise to express 3D objects within the "Gaussian Splatting" technology that emphasizes realistic 3D expression and noise minimization, and it was also used in the work [Deportation] displayed at the event to express the aesthetics of traditional Korean masks based on abstract images.
In addition, the volumetric documentary [Fly To You], which was officially invited to the 2024 Ars Electronica Festival and the Kaohsiung International Film Festival, attracted attention.
"Sigraf is a good opportunity to expand not only academic horizons but also networks with industry officials," said Lee Seung-moo, director of AT Lab (Professor of Film Department at the Korea Film Institute), who oversees the business. "I hope this participation will be a good driving force to give wings to AI research in the school."
