AI a tool for creation, or its adversary?

The Art and Technology Lab (AT Lab) at the Korea National University of Arts (K-ARTS) will host the 'A.I × ART × HUMAN: AT Lab Interdisciplinary Content Showcase & Conference' from October 30 (Thu) to November 1 (Sat) at the Kim Hee-su Art Center. The event aims to reveal the lab's exploration of this fundamental question and share deep insights gained through the creative process.

■ Domestic Premiere of Global Successes: From Venice and SXSW Selections to Interactive AI Actors

The showcase marks the domestic debut of AT Lab's future-oriented works, which have already garnered international acclaim over the past year. The exhibition features a total of seven AI and XR convergence pieces, ranging from generative AI-driven real-time narratives to VR documentaries utilizing cutting-edge technologies like NeRF and volumetric capture.

The lineup includes:

     ● 8 PM and the Cat: Invited to the Immersive Competition at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival.

     ● Fly to You: Selected for the XR Competition at 2025 SXSW.

     ● Scarecrow Rekindle: Winner of Best Immersive Theatre at the 2025 Raindance Film Festival.

     ● Diamond Dust: An AI-native work featuring "AI Actors" (virtual characters), previously showcased at Ars Electronica.

■ Oct. 31 Conference: ‘The Future of AI and Storytelling’ — Sharing On-Site Insights

On Friday, October 31 at 2:00 PM, a conference titled "The Future of AI and Storytelling" will be held at the same venue. The session will explore critical questions facing the intersection of art and technology today:

     ● How will AI transform the content market?

     ● What is the role of the creator in the age of Generative AI?

     ● In what ways can technology and art effectively collaborate?

The conference will pull back the curtain on the production processes of the featured showcase works, offering vivid field experiences and academic insights from the K-ARTS creative and research teams.

"In an era where social media is flooded with generative imagery, what truly matters is the serious contemplation of how this technology can be sublimated into new forms of art through the hands of creators," said Lee Seung-moo, Director of AT Lab. "This event is a platform to share AT Lab's reflections and achievements, and to collectively explore both the possibilities and limitations of AI-driven creation."
