K-ARTS AT Lab’s ‘Scarecrow VRC’ Wins

Best Technology Innovation Award at Sandbox Immersive Festival

- The first Korean metaverse performance, Scarecrow VRC, marks its third major international win

following accolades at Raindance (UK) and Columbia University (USA).

- K-ARTS AT Lab’s immersive content continues to sweep the global circuit with over 10 selections and

awards from elite festivals, including Sundance, Tribeca, and Cannes.

The Art & Technology Lab (AT Lab) at the Korea National University of Arts (K-ARTS, President Kim Dae-jin) continues its unprecedented winning streak at major international immersive media festivals.

The lab’s groundbreaking metaverse production, Scarecrow VRC, was honored with the Best Technology Innovation Award at the Sandbox Immersive Festival (SIF) in Beijing. This marks the third international award for the piece, following the Best Immersive Narrative win at the Raindance Film Festival and the Storytelling Innovation Award from Columbia University’s Digital Storytelling Lab (DSL).

This victory follows closely on the heels of the People’s Choice Award won by another AT Lab production, the VR feature film Red Eyes, at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) this past October.

■ Redefining the Metaverse Performance

Scarecrow VRC—praised by Forbes as "a pioneering masterpiece" and "one of the most intense digital experiences to date"—is a hybrid performance that transitions the original Scarecrow narrative into a metaverse environment. Utilizing the social VR platform VRChat, actors and users from around the world connect in real-time to co-create an emotional live performance that can only exist within virtual reality.

■ Leading the "K-Tech Art" Wave

K-ARTS AT Lab is a premier creative research institute dedicated to the fusion of science, arts, industry, and education. Beyond the Scarecrow series, the lab is a global leader in high-tech storytelling:
