K-ARTS AT Lab's volumetric-based XR content <SAMUL> (Director Park Ark, Creator Lee Seung-moo) is an XR content that captures Kim Deok-soo's Samulnori's performance with a high-end volumetric and reinterprets it with various particle effects in VR space.
<SAMUL>, which advanced traditional art by moving the Samulnori performance of Samulnori founder Kim Deok-soo to a virtual reality space, is a work completed by upgrading the 2021 Content One Campus support work of the Korea Creative Content Agency from K-ARTS AT Lab. Through industry-academia cooperation with SKT, the completeness of the content has been raised to a global level by utilizing state-of-the-art high-end volumetric capture equipment.
In recognition of the completeness of the work, the volumetric*-based XR** content <SAMUL> was officially invited to the immersive part of the 30th British Raindance Film Festival.
* Volumetric: Technology to capture a person's movement in a chroma key background studio with hundreds of 4K cameras and turn it into 360-degree stereoscopic images
** XR: Extended reality encompassing mixed reality (MR) that encompasses virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR)

Established in 1993, the Raindance Film Festival is an international indie film festival with branches in London, New York and Vancouver. The Raindance Immersive section plays a leading role in supporting experimental content discovery using high-tech images such as virtual reality and games.
Through this work, AT Lab was able to introduce content that newly interpreted traditional art to the international stage by incorporating the leading support program of the Korea Creative Content Agency and SKT's advanced technology into Han Ye-jong's creative education system.
"Content One Campus Establishment Operation", which supports volumetric-based XR Content <SAMUL>, is an ambitious project promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency, and started with support for four university consortiums in 2018 to develop and operate innovative curriculum through the establishment of an industry-academic-related education cooperation system, and to foster leading core talents in the future.
K-ARTS AT Lab, which has been carrying out the project for five years, aims to integrate science and technology, culture and art, industry and education. Works such as fusion and integrated virtual reality works "Scarecrow" and "Rain Prutes" have been invited to major global video festivals such as Sundance Film Festival, South by Southwest (SXSW), Tribeca, and Cannes Film Festival XR, winning a number of major awards including the Best Realistic Media Award at the Raindance Film Festival and the Best Technological Innovation Award at the Sandbox Festival. In addition, the company has been conducting various industry-academic cooperation activities with leading domestic and foreign companies such as LG U+, SKT, and TikTok. Technology universities such as POSTECH and KAIST are also conducting joint research in the field of high-tech convergence, leading the trend in global high-tech contents through the convergence of art, technology, and industry.
