Art & Technology Lab of the Convergence Arts Center (President Kim Dae-jin, hereinafter Han Ye-jong) has been officially invited to the Ars Electronica Festival 2024 in Linz, Austria, from September 4-8, with a total of five works, including "Diamond Dust" using AI characters.

The Ars Electronica Festival, which began in 1979 and celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, is the world's largest convergence art festival with a total of 1,542 artists, scientists, developers, designers, and activists from 88 countries around the world, with the motto of connecting technology, art, and society.

There are a total of five works invited this time, from "Diamond Dust" to "Redial," "Fly to You," "Pasi" and "SSITGIM," all of which were produced and distributed by AT Lab.

<DIAMOND DUST>

Among them, "Diamond Dust" (director Jeon Nuri) was produced as part of the R&D Project Leading Graduate School of Culture and Technology organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency's Culture, Sports and Tourism Technology Promotion Center, and the story begins when he meets Kardi, the ice fairy, after crash landing on a snow-covered mountain. Using AI characters and advanced haptics, "Diamond Dust" is a work that makes you realize the value of a precious relationship through conversation with Cardi.

<Redial> <Fly To You>

In "Redial" (director Kim Ga-eun, Kim Min-kyung), an epic portrayal of the reconciliation of a family separated by a missing child. Players listen to the sisters' voice messages in a public phone booth and understand their respective positions.

Fly to You (director Song Young-yoon) is a VR documentary about the heartbreaking journey of Songjeol, which suffered the pain of family separation during the Korean War, and uses volume capture and 2D NeRF technology to guide the audience on a journey across borders and time.

<PASI> <SSITGIM>

Through "PASI" (director Jung Eun-sil), the audience meets lonely characters in Mokpo folktales and recalls memories of past stories and the disappeared market on the sea with them.

Finally, "SSITGIM" (director Kang Seung-pyo) is a work that allows you to vividly experience Jindo Ssitgim Exorcism, a traditional Korean shamanic ritual, through VR, and was filmed with a 360-degree virtual camera in the background of Unhyeon Palace, and was performed by Professor Chae Soo-jung, a master pansori singer.

The invitation is an achievement of AT Lab's know-how and passion of Han Ye-jong students for new media, which have been consistently creating and researching contents using advanced technologies such as AI, volume capture, NeRF, and haptics. In the fast-changing new media market, we will try to build a stable system so that K-ARTS artists can freely show their creativity and develop their talents.
